Improved balance & spatial awareness
Does this sound familiar to you as a parent...?
Too much screen time
Lack of focus
Waning confidence
Unhelpful online role models
Struggling to listen
Feeling isolated in school or social settings

Our Foundation Programme directly addresses these modern parenting challenges by providing a safe, structured, and positive environment where children can:
Build real confidence through achievement and encouragement
Develop self-discipline and listening skills
Learn to respect others while standing up for themselves
Engage with positive role models who reinforce empathy, courage, and respect
Parents tell us that after a few lessons, they can see a difference - their child listens better, shows more confidence, and walks taller.
This isn’t about medals or competition. It’s about setting your child up for success - in martial arts and in life.
Designed specifically for ages 5–7 (up to early 8s), it teaches key movement, focus, and listening skills through fun, structured lessons that set the groundwork for future training.

“Every child deserves to feel proud of who they are becoming and martial arts is one of the best ways to help them discover that.”
Founder & Chief Instructor, Ed Hodgson
At the heart of Trinity Martial Arts & Self Defence is our Chief Instructor, Ed Hodgson - a dedicated martial artist, self-defence instructor and passionate educator with a mission to help every student reach their full potential.
With over three decades of martial arts experience, Ed has trained extensively across several disciplines including KAPAP Krav Maga, Kickboxing, Kung Fu, Wing Chun and Filipino Kali.
His teaching philosophy focuses on building confidence, respect, and focus in a way that children enjoy and understand.
For our younger students, Ed’s approach centres around encouragement, fun, and achievement. Every class is structured to bring out the best in each child - helping them develop balance, concentration, and self-control while having fun and feeling supported.
Parents and students describe his classes as positive, energetic, and full of life lessons.
Ed believes martial arts should give children more than physical skills - it should help them grow into confident, kind, and capable young people.
If you love it (and if we think you're a match), you’ll be given the option to continue and enrol onto the full Foundation Programme.
Absolutely! We encourage all new families to book an introductory class first. It's the perfect way for your child to experience the class and for you to meet our instructors before joining.
Every child is different, but many parents notice improvements in focus, listening and confidence within the first 12 weeks. We celebrate small steps and personal progress, not just belt colour!
That's completely normal! Our instructors are great at helping children settle in. Most children start out shy but quickly grow in confidence as they get used to their regular class routine.
Yes, we encourage parents to watch their child's first few classes. It helps children feel more comfortable and gives parents a great sense of how classes are structured.
Free parking is available adjacent to our entrance in George Street Car Park and free hot drinks are available while you watch.
